If your wooden floor in the passage of time has lost the beauty, but you are not planing a new floor, it is really worth thinking about restoration. There are so many professionals out there who can tell you what you should do with your old wooden floor to make it look good again and to get the beauty back as it was when it was brand new. The most important thing of wooden floor restoration is to correctly remove the old lacquer, paint or oil and correctly cover it with new one. If some cases you will have to take take off all of the boards or some of them and then put them back for example if it squeaks.
Before you start restoration
First we would recommend you to find your local flooring expert and have a chat with him, would be very useful to hear what he has to say about the situation on your wooden floor. In most of the cases it doesn't cost anything.
If your wooden floor is painted then first you need to find out how many coatings it has.
If your floor is painted we would recommend you to hire an expert straight away. Because you don't know whats under the paint coating, there can be many problems that you couldn't really see at first and at the end you may end up with bigger costs and your precious time would be lost.
In case your floor is waxed you may just need to wax it again and the floor will look much better then before.
But before starting any work with the floor we would recommend to completely clear away all the furniture so the floor is ready for its make over.
